  • twitch.tv/kerrytaz (Secondary English stream)

Predictions:

1st  Melty eSports Club

The 7th ranked EU squad comes into this weekly as the strong favorite. They’re no strangers to being the favorite, they went on a dominant run in the first closed beta and their recent return to form has made them a serious threat and a top team in their own right. They will greatly benefit from a few of the top NA teams sitting out this week and should find themselves in the final this week.

2nd  Selfless

The 8th ranked NA team made an impressive run to 3rd last week and qualified for the Atlantic showdown with ease. They are perennial top 8 finishers who have shown themselves to be on the verge of being a top NA team and with the rest of the top 8 sitting out this is their chance to shine. I expect them to face a strong challenge from 1sun however this team should reach the finals.

3rd  1sun

The Chinese power house, currently ranked 27th in the world, has made several impressive runs in the Gosugamers weekly tournaments already. They’ve shown that they can compete with the best, losing out to only to the elite teams NA and EU have to offer. While not a shoo-in for the final, it shouldn’t shock anyone if they end up there.

4th  MVP Space

The newest and perhaps riskiest pick on this list, the All-Korean line up had a very impressive run to a top 8 finish in last week’s tournament. They managed to beat Weunited and only lost to Fnatic and Selfless. The Koreans have a chance to really get their name out there this week if they continue the impressive form they displayed last week. I would not be surprised to see this team pull off a few upsets.

BaseTradeTV is back with another cup – POSTPONED – gamesread.com

Starcraft dedicated BaseTradeTV is back with their second Overwatch cup, with qualifiers on July 27th/28th. Sign ups are open!

BaseTradeTV is known in the Starcraft community for being hard working and enthusiastic. Now they are about to arrange their second Overwatch tournament. Their first one was held during the closed beta, and was a little different from the tournaments we are used to seeing: it was control maps only. Some of the teams that participated back during OnlyWatch (which the tournament, funnily enough, also was called) were Creation Esports, Melty and Reunited. But enough of the nostalgia, how about this upcoming tournament?

BaseTradeTV Cup will have 2 qualifiers that will be held on the 27th and 28th of July. From each of these, 4 teams will advance to the round of 8 that will be played on August 4th, and finally, the finals on August 5th where the teams will fight for a prize pool of $1200. The format for the qualifier will be single elimination open bracket, with BO1 until the round of 32 and for control points, BO3 until round of 4. Default server will be NA, but all teams are still welcome to sign up!

The rules will be a little bit (or a lot) different than their last tournament. This time all games will have the same rules as in competitive ladder games, with one exception. If a tie occurs, instead of the usual ladder coin flip, there will be a tie breaker BO3 on Nepal. Other than that, it’s pretty straight forward with 1 hero limit and 1 sub per team allowed.

Tournament will be held on twitch.tv/BaseTradeTV
Registrations are open now, to sign up, click here.

Edit: Sadly, the tournament has been postponed. We will make sure to announce whenever the event is rescheduled.

A Viewers Guide to the Alienware Monthly Melee – July – gamesread.com

The playoffs of this months Alienware Monthly Melee will be played later today. Considering the teams participating, it should be a set of close matches!

Event Hub

The Alienware Monthly Melee returned yesterday with the groupstage of its July edition. While no teams were eliminated, the matches did influence seeding for the playoffs bracket. Unsurprisingly, EnVyUs and Cloud9 were the best team in their respective groups. WEUNITED and fnatic (old nubris) also played well, and secured a spot in the Upper Bracket because of that.

The bottom four teams of yesterday have been placed in the Lower Bracket, and are thus only one loss away from being eliminated. With a $3,000 prizepool, you could say this is pretty relevant.

Where to watch

The event will go live at 23:00 CEST/17:00 EDT/14:00 PDT. If you want to follow the action you can do so on the following channel:

Predictions

In order to help you get a better understanding of the teams participating, we have listed the favourites and challengers for today:

Favorites:

1. EnVyUs

As always, Team EnVyUs is the clear favourite to win. They are sporting a 100% win percentage in July, and only lost once in June. The last time they even lost a game was actually against Cloud9, but they still beat them convincingly with a 3-1 score. The team did not need time to adjust to the new patch and, while they did not play Ana, recorded a lot of minutes on Zenyatta and D.Va.

2. Cloud9

Cloud9 was looking a bit shaky by the end of June and start of July, but have regained their excellent form leading up to some of the bigger events going on right now. Still ranked #2 on our GosuRankings, though miles away from the #1 spot, the team is enjoying a period of ‘mostly winning’. Nobody can blame them for losing to EnVyUs, and they have only lost to another team (TSM) once in recent times. Fnatic did take 1 game off of them yesterday, which might tease an upset today.

Challengers:

1. Fnatic

Last week we were happy to announce that major organization Fnatic joined the Overwatch scene, picking up the nubris roster. While Fnatic is ranked lower on our GosuRankings than LG, we expect them to soon rise past them and start threatening the top 3 of NA. The stability of their roster, and existence of their coach, results in them being our most likely Challengers.

2. WEUNITED

Officially the only EU team playing today, albeit with a partially-NA roster, WEUNITED will try to continue their recent impressive records, hopefully breaching the top 10 in our GosuRankings. We are not quite sure they are better than Fnatic (since they haven’t played each other yet), but they have shown the ability to beat the majority of other participating teams. Besides EnVyUs and Cloud of course; beating them would be quite a surprise but one the team is wanting to make happen.

Patch Notes: Sneaky patch buffs Ana, nerfs McCree – gamesread.com

Blizzard released a quick patch today that included changes for their new support hero, Ana, and everyone’s favorite outlaw McCree. The patch lands just minutes before the Alienware Monthly tournament.

Blizzard released a quick patch today just minutes before the July Alienware Monthly. The patch buffed the new support hero Ana exactly one week after release. She now has an increased rate of fire and larger magazine which is expected to increase her healing and damage output. The patch also includes a few McCree changes including a nerf in range, however, he now has a faster alternate rate of fire. Last but not least the patch fixes some cosmetic UI bugs.

For the full patch notes, click here.

HERO BALANCE UPDATES

Ana

  • Biotic Rifle
    • Rate of fire increased by 20%
    • Magazine size increased from 8 to 10

McCree

  • Peacemaker
    • Primary Fire
      • Damage falloff range decreased by 10 meters
        • Damage falloff amount is unchanged
        • As a result, even with this change, McCree’s effective range is still higher than it was at launch
    • Alternate Fire
      • Rate of fire increased by 15%
  • Flashbang
    • Recovery time (i.e. the amount of time before McCree can fire again) decreased from 0.5 seconds to 0.35 seconds

gamesread - Star Citizen has the financial backing of 500,000 fans

While much is made of Roberts Space Industries’ work on Star Citizen, perhaps much less known is the job that Turbulent has performed. This small team has been tackling web site content, including setting up the pledging tools, forums, and social games.

A recent interview with Turbulent shines some light on what goes on behind the scenes, including the apparent size of Star Citizen’s patron base: “Of the one million user accounts that includes the Roberts Space Industries platform, 500,000 fans have already pre-purchased content in the game, which is actively involved in its funding.”

And can you believe it, Star Citizen’s Around the Verse vidcast has already hit 100 episodes! Catch up on the latest news and gossip surrounding the game after the break — and stay tuned to for a rather silly music video involving a vending machine afterward.
